  • Nelson K. C. Liu Partner

    Nelson was one of the two co-founders of Cheung & Liu Solicitors established in April 2004. Whilst still being attached to Cheung & Liu Solicitors as a Consultant, Nelson leads a team of seasoned legal professionals to spearhead the establishment of KCL & Partners and is the mastermind behind every unique solution. He has accrued considerable experience in litigation centering on commercial disputes and he has acted on a wide range of clients from business magnates to grassroots. He advises international and local clients on a broad spectrum of commercial matters and also on corporate matters.

    Nelson also holds a Non-Executive Director position at a listed company. He is the co-founder of the Hong Kong Institute of Patent Attorneys and is also a founding member of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executive Association; he further holds 2 legal advisory roles at The Life Underwriters Association of Hong Kong (LUA) and the Hong Kong Brands Protection Alliance. He was also recently appointed as a General Committee Member of the HKINEDA.

     

    He also holds a Bachelor degree in Social Science majoring in Economics at the University of Hong Kong (1992). Following the completion of his law degree in 1998, Nelson further acquired a Master’s Degree in Chinese & Comparative Law at the City University of Hong Kong (2001). He is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2001 and co-founded Cheung and Liu Solicitors in 2004.He has recently acquired the qualification of Certified Arbitrator of the Zhanjiang Court of International Arbitration and is also an Accredited Mediator in Hong Kong.

  • Rockey Lam Partner

    Rockey heads up the employees' compensation/personal injuries (EC/PI) team.  He has a particular expertise in employment disputes and litigation in his core sector.  He oversees the semantics in the team and is known for having a vast clientele.
     
    Rockey took his law degree at the City University of Hong Kong (2005) and is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2008.  He is a Civil Celebrant of Marriage and has recently acquired the qualification of Certified Arbitrator of the Zhanjiang Court of International Arbitration.

  • Carina S. K. Liu Senior Associate

    Carina has niche experience in litigation related to personal injuries claims and has been involved in some of the most complex cases within her core focus. She has a predominant focus on civil litigation with depth of experience in insurance disputes and matrimonial issues.

    She is known for untangling the web of unresolved disputes, principally in personal injuries claims.

    She obtained her LLB at the University of Hong Kong and was qualified as a solicitor in 1998. She is also a Certified Arbitrator of the Zhanjiang Court of International Arbitration.

  • Yip Kam Man Senior Consultant

    Mr. Yip first graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.  He was admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong in 2001.  He had taken and completed all taught courses of the LLM of the Renmin University of China in 2002-2003.  Since 2016, he has been appointed by the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China as a China-Appointed Attesting Officer.

     

    Mr. Yip has extensive experience in the legal practice.  Before he qualified, Mr. Yip had acted as a Court Prosecutor undertaking criminal prosecution work.  He had also worked as an Assistant Legal Manager in a Group of companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, spending over 5 years in PRC related and local legal work, and during such period he was actively involved in incorporating and rendering legal support to over 10 PRC foreign investment enterprises or sino-foreign equity/cooperative joint ventures of the Group.

     

    Prior to joining KCL & Partners in February 2019, Mr. Yip had been a Partner and subsequently the Principal of Messrs. Yip & Liu (having ceased its over 12 years’ practice), a small-sized but decent law firm committed to providing high quality service to clients.  Since his admission, his practice has covered areas of corporate and general commercial, China attesting and PRC related work, contract, employees’ compensation and personal injuries claims, criminal, probate, tenancy, conveyancing and property related disputes, torture claims and judicial review.

  • Daiana Y. Y. Wong Consultant

    Daiana has been involved in a fair amount of complex civil and commercial litigation as well as arbitrations and contractual matters. She went through an all-rounded training in our team under the direct supervision of our Partner Nelson Liu and had moved on to work in one of the top able commercial law firms in Hong Kong for a year and a half before rejoining our General Practice team as an Associate.

    Daiana obtained a BBA (2008) and an LLB (2010) at the University of Hong Kong.She was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2015.

  • Cecilia C.Y. Wong Consultant

    Cecilia was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in August 1998.  She graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1995 in Bachelor Degree in Laws and passed the Postgraduate Certificate in 1996.  She obtained the Master Degree in Laws at the University of Hong Kong in 1998.  She was later admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in April 1999.
     
    Briefly, the areas of law in which she practised include civil and criminal litigation, family and matrimonial (divorce), personal injuries and employees compensation, commercial law, and bankruptcy, etc.  During these ten more years, Cecilia was specialized in Human Rights and Immigration matters such as judicial review against the decisions of the Director of Immigration and Secretary for Security, application for a writ of habeas corpus, judicial review against the “no consent” regime under the JFIU, Petition and/or Appeal to the Chief Executive and/or Security Bureau.  Immigration applications such as applications for dependant visa, employment visa and extension of stay etc. Human rights issues such as raising non-refoulement claims, CIDTP, torture claims, refugee claims and all applicable grounds under the Hong Kong Bill of Rights Ordinance and Basic Laws.     
     
    She is on the list of solicitors of the Legal Aid Panel and the Duty Lawyer List.  She is also on list of the Legal Aid Services Counsel for the advice of the Director of Legal Aid’s refusal to grant legal aid in respect of the Applicant’s appeal to the Court of Final Appeal.
     
    During these years, she had been handling a few of Court of Final Appeal and Court of Appeal cases which created the precedent and rendering the HKSAR government to amend the laws, such as illegal working, the courting of 7 years ordinary residency, claiming damages for unlawful detention, etc.
     
     
  • Tsang Ngai Man Consultant

    Thomas graduated from The University of Hong Kong with Bachelor of laws degree. He is a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong and England & Wales.  He has been appointed as China-appointed Attesting Officer by the Ministry of Justice of the PRC since 2009.  He speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Putonghua.

     

    His practice mainly covers corporate and commercial matters including mainland cross-border mergers and acquisitions, take-over and corporate restructuring, equity offering and sino joint-venture project.  He has extensive experience in advising stated-owned entities and listed companies on regulatory compliance and corporate governance.

    Tommy has experience in all aspects of commercial matters and criminal litigation having gone through an all-rounded training in our team and qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2016.

  • Sam K. S. Yip Consultant

    Mr. Yip obtained his LLB at the Renmin University of China and pursued his Juris Doctor (JD) and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) at the City University of Hong Kong. In 2011, Mr. Yip had successfully passed the National Judicial Examination in the PRC. Mr. Yip is trilingual and is proficient in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

     

    Yip went through an all-rounded training in both our Litigation and Corporate Finance Team. He has ample opportunity to acquire exposure in complex civil and commercial litigation as well as corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions and compliance works for listed companies.

  • Crystal Hu Jue Registered Foreign Lawyer

    Ms. Hu obtained her LLB in 2008 and passed the PRC National Judicial Examination in 2013. Over the years of practicing in Shenzhen, she has accumulated extensive experience in litigation and corporate cases, which covered areas of arbitration, contract, probate, and matrimonial related disputes.

     

    Being a core member of our General Practice division, her mission is to provide an all-rounded legal service to clients in cross-jurisdiction areas with her expertise.
